Rewind Knob

Usually rest around the pentaprism of the camera (but some were designed around the film rewind knob). It has an electrical contact which mated with a contact in the mounting foot of the flash unit.

Shutter Button

In photography the shutter-release button (sometimes just shutter release or shutter button) is a button found on many cameras, used to take a picture

ASA/ISO Dial

Dial to control ISO speed

ASA/ISO/Film Speed

Film speed is the measure of a photographic film's sensitivity to light, determined by sensitometry and measured on various numerical scales, the most recent being the ISO system.

Aperture

In optics, an aperture is a hole or an opening through which light travels.

Shutter Speed Control

On a digital camera, you can directly change the shutter speed in manual and shutter priority modes.

Shutter

In photography, a shutter is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.

Lens

A camera lens (also known as photographic lens, objective lens or photographic objective) is an optical lens or assembly of lenses used in conjunction with a camera body and mechanism to make images of objects either on photographic film or on other media capable of storing an image chemically or electronically.

TLR

A twin-lens reflex camera (TLR) is a type of camera with two objective lenses of the same focal length.

SLR

A single-lens reflex (SLR) camera is a camera that typically uses a semi-automatic moving mirror system that permits the photographer to see exactly what will be captured by the film or digital imaging system (after a very small delay)

Pinhole Camera Artist

I like this photographer (Bob St.cyr) because his photos of nature are realistic and simple. His photos use pinhole in a unique way by using scenes that usually have lots of colour and givingthem none. The photos are taken very well because of the lighting choice and scene.

Part 2

School Community: Creative, Accepting. A small school where almost everyone knows eachother , which makes it more friendly.
What do I value?: How accepting it is of everyone no matter what they wear or look like.
Why art matters: Art is a form of creative expression in which everyone can express themselves the way they want.
You can express this visually: by doing what J.R. did, make the community know about who lives there.

Part 1:Niall M.

This image impacted me because it reminds me that there are kids out there affected by AIDS everyday. Most of them are orphans from it, or even have it themselves. It makes me appreciate the health care on this side of the world, and how fortunate I am to have it. This picture impacts the community it came from, by reminding people in richer parts of the world that this is a very real problem, and that they can do something to help.

Shutter Speeds

Shutter- A device that is used on a camera to cover a lens, and control the exposure of a photo.

Shutter Speeds-
  • 1/1000 s- Fastest
  • 1/500 s
  • 1/250 s
  • 1/125 s
  • 1/60 s
  • 1/30 s
  • 1/15 s
  • 1/8 s
  • 1/4 s
  • 1/2 s
  • 1 s- Slowest
Shutter Priority- A setting on a camera that allows someone to change the shutter speed.

Exposure- The total amount of light that the camera lets in. How to set your camera for a good exposure:
If you let your camera determine exposure for you, it won't always get it right.Take a photo of a white wall and it will wind up looking grey — the camera has intentionally underexposed the image. Take a photo of a black wall and it will also look grey — the camera has overexposed the image.

Aperture-The lens diaphragm opening inside a photographic lens

ISO/ASA- The most basic shutter speeds

Bulb- A shutter speed setting on an adjustable camera that allows for long exposure times under the direct control of the photographer

Cable Release- A cable release is an attachment that screws into a shutter release that allows you to trip the shutter mechanically while being isolated from the camera.

Tripod- In photography, a tripod is used to stabilize and elevate a camera.

Bracketing- In photography, bracketing is the general technique of taking several shots of the same subject using different or the same camera settings.

Self Evaluation

Im giving myself 4 out of 5 for my work so far. I have goofed off a bit, but ended up with solid results and all my work done. I was late, but got it done, and hope you guys will like my photos.

Best Personification 3

This is a good example of a good personification because it shows something at the height of its power with scars that it had to take to get to the top.

Best Personification 2

This orange is also a very good example because it represents being tired, or beaten up, of what used to be new. It shows imperfection, but still beauty.

Best Personification 1

This is my first best personification, and has the best example. The two sovels represent two diiferent members of society, one a newcomer that is nieve but newer and prettier. The second is an older more wise shuffle that has seen everything and been used alot. Both shovels have different meanings and can be personified.

Personification Contact Sheet

Please look at Personification 5 (Rule of Thirds)
                                  Personification 1 (Contrast)
                                                          Personification 19 (Patterns and Repetition)
                                   Personification 22 (Framing)
                                           Personification 26 (Leading Lines)

Personification

This picture had some of the best personification because of contrast. One shovel is a red brighter, younger inexperienced one, where the brown shovel is an old, forgotten wise shovel. Having them next to eachother in perfect contrast works very well for showing to very different shovels or personalities.

Rule of Thirds

The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.

Leading Lines

Leading lines are lines within an image that leads the eye to another point in the image, or occasionally, out of the image. Anything with a definite line can be a leading line. Fences, bridges, even a shoreline can lead the eye.

Patterns and Repetition

To give the impression of size and large numbers, you can fill the frame with a repetitive pattern. This can be achieved by zooming in close enough to the pattern till it fills the whole frame. This move makes the repetition appear as though it’s exploding out, despite it stopping just outside of your framing.

A few examples of this technique include faces in a crowd, bricks on a wall or a line of bicycle wheels placed in the same angle. As a matter of fact, almost any repeated appearances of objects would do the trick. All you really need to do is to keep your eyes wide open.

Contrast

Of ambient light: brightness range in scene: difference between highest luminance and lowest.

Framing

A photographic frame is an object that that acts as a border or frame for your subject. The frame directs the viewer’s attention to a particular subject or point of interest within the photograph. Frames also create perspective and show depth.
